Drug Tariff News

Changes to Part VIIIB

Rosemont Pharmaceuticals has recently launched licensed preparations:

  • Paracetamol 500mg/5ml oral suspension sugar free
  • Gabapentin 50mg/ml oral solution

As a result, the Department of Health and PSNC have agreed the following changes to the Drug Tariff:

Products moving from Part VIIIB to Part VIIIA Category C

  • Paracetamol 500mg/5ml oral suspension sugar free (as of 1st December 2012)
  • Gabapentin 250mg/5ml oral solution (as of 1st January 2013)

Products being deleted from Part VIIIB

  • Gabapentin 250mg/5ml oral suspension (as of 1st January 2013)
  • Gabapentin 400mg/5ml oral solution/suspension (as of 1st January 2013)

Reimbursement for prescriptions submitted in the month the Tariff changes will be based upon the Part VIIIA price.

Contractors are reminded of the professional requirement that when a product is ordered on a prescription, a pharmacist must supply a product with a marketing authorisation, where available, in preference to an unlicensed medicine.
