This section relates to the work carried out by the Pricing Authority to price prescription bundles.

To improve the efficiency of prescription pricing, an automated pricing system, known as the Capacity Improvement Programme (CIP), was introduced in England. All prescriptions dispensed by pharmacy contractors in England as part of the national contract are now being processed by the CIP system (prescriptions from LPS Contractors are processed via legacy systems).

Since the introduction of CIP, some processing issues have been identified which could cause an error in payment for some prescription items. PSNC and the Pricing Authority continue to scrutinise the system closely to implement ongoing error correction and system improvement work.
