LPC News: Booking now open for virtual meeting of LPCs and PSNC

June 5, 2020

LPCs are now able to register to attend the virtual meeting of LPCs and PSNC on Wednesday 8th July.

The meeting will give LPCs and PSNC the opportunity to discuss the findings of the independent review into community pharmacy contractor representation and support. Attendees will hear from the review author, Professor David Wright, and have the chance to question him on his report.

The event will take place online, between 10am and 1pm.

Professor Wright will publish his findings and recommendations on Friday 19th June. LPC Members will receive a copy of his report two days before that, under strict embargo. They will then have until Friday 3rd July to consider the report and to submit initial questions for Professor Wright – this may require a virtual LPC meeting so that questions can be presented in collated form.

Details on how to submit questions and to register for the 8th July event are included below.

LPCs will remember that the aim of Professor Wright’s review was to find ways to optimise LPC and PSNC working to ensure that the national network structure for contractor representation is working as efficiently as it can and is fit for the future. The independent review team’s report will also set out a series of recommendations for how the support and representation offered for contractors can be improved.

The virtual event has been planned by an LPC and PSNC working group. Each LPC will be able to register a maximum of two representatives for the event.

An agenda for the event is available on the event registration page and includes the chance for attendees to ask further questions of Professor Wright, followed by discussions on next steps in virtual breakout rooms. The aim of these discussions will be to consider initial next steps for LPCs and PSNC – there will be no binding votes on actions taken on the day, and we expect to return to this topic at the annual LPC Conference which is scheduled for Wednesday 16th September.

There are a number of actions that LPCs can now prepare to take:

  1. Deciding which two people should represent the LPC at the virtual meeting, and booking their places using PSNC’s registration form.
  2. Considering whether to plan an LPC meeting between Wednesday 17th June and Friday 3rd July to consider the report and any questions for Professor Wright.
  3. Noting the date of the Wednesday 16th September annual LPC Conference.
  4. In due course, reading the report and recommendations of the independent review, which will be sent to LPCs on Wednesday 17th June.
  5. Submitting initial questions about the report to Professor Wright by COP Friday 3rd July. These should be sent as one list, as agreed by the LPC. They can be emailed to: d.j.wright@uea.ac.uk
