The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), the General Medical Council (GMC) and the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland have published a joint statement in response to claims that patients and the public have been inappropriately influenced by health professionals when making decisions about where to access services such as flu vaccinations or dispensing of prescriptions.

Flu vaccinations for pharmacy staff

As has been the case for several years, in the National Flu letter, the Department of Health and Social Care, Public Health England and NHS England and NHS Improvement advise that all frontline health and social care workers should receive a flu vaccination this season.

They note that this should be provided by their employer, in order to meet their responsibility to protect their staff and patients and ensure the overall safe running of services. They also state that employers should commission a service which makes access easy to the vaccine for all frontline staff, encourage staff to get vaccinated, and monitor the delivery of their programmes.
